Bessain
Bessain trudged through the muddy streets, travel worn and very cold. Her cloak slung over he shoulder, her clothes muddy and ragged. Fatigue showed on her face.
Her boots made soft scraping noises, as she dragged herself through the town. As if looking for a particular spot. She finally stopped in front of a busy Inn, and swung the doors open.
Several people turned to look, but she didnt pay any attention. She paid for a room, and sat down at a table near the fire, spreading her hands of in front of the flames. The warmth of the fire was welcoming. The barmaid stopped next to her table, and waited for Bessain to order. "Soup and an ale," she muttered. "Please." she finished, handing over a silver coin or two.
Some drunk men near her started muttering gibberish in her direction. Most likely mocking her language. Too tired to care, she waited paitently near the fire for her order to come in.
Pheonix
Dagoron rode his buckskin pony, Roch, over to the stable boy, who looked at the dwarf with a rather surprised face. “What ye lookin at lil one? I want ye ter take care of me pony. Or I’ll cut ye from ye jaw to yet gut.” After installing some fear into the little kid he hopped off the pony and handed him the reigns. “Take care o me pony, or else…” he said pulling out his axe and waving it in front of the now terrified kid. He strode off into the tavern hoping to get drunk and pass out on a bed.
Pushing both the doors open he looked around the tavern and thought he saw a familiar elf. He got a wicked grin on his face and snuck (or rather tried to sneak) over to her. He clapped her on the back and smiled. “Ello there Bess how ye goin.” He had apparently upset an already troubled elf. “What’s wrong Bess, ye mind still on that horrible day that happened long ago?” he took a seat down next to her. “Bess, ye need ter forget bout em and move on… yes I know, ye had a thing, but he is gone and you need to find someone else.” He was probably being a little too forward but… this needed to be said, people were starting to wonder about her.
Bessain
"Dag?" she questioned, as she recieved a slap on the back. "How do you seem to be everywhere at once?" He just laughed and continued to talk.
Quote: “What’s wrong Bess, ye mind still on that horrible day that happened long ago?” he took a seat down next to her.
She gave him a confused look. It took her a minute to realize what he was talking about. That was not what she had been thinking about at all. "That was random. I'm tired, sore, and cold. The traits of anyone who travels alot. Thank you, my dear friend, for bringing THAT subject up!" she growled in his face. All she wanted to do was eat, perhaps drink her cares away, then head up stairs to sleep. She was not going to get drunk in front of the dwarf, so she'd have to sleep and notice every knot in her muscles.
Her soup and ale came. Just as she was about to reach over and grab her ale, the dwarf swipped it and began to drink away. "Go ahead," she muttered in disgust. "Drink away."
She watched the dwarf for a bit, before starting on her soup. "So, my annoying friend, what brings you here?"
Pheonix
“Well my cranky friend, it’s simple.” He said as he raised his eyebrows “thee ale!” he yelled out getting a few hate filled glances from people sitting around him, one of them from Bessain. He smiled “I’m sorry bout ye friend Bess, I know it aint ye favorite subject to talk bout. Anyhow, how’s, life been treatin ye? Besides ye bein road wearie.” He looked around “where did that blasted bar maid get off ter? Um miss, can I get some food, anything’s fine as long as its food.” He said in an eager voice. The maid just raised her eyebrows and shook her head “right away, you stingy dog.” She said, muttering the last part.
Bessain laughed, obviously hearing her comment and sipped at her soup. He looked at her with a confused face and waived his hand after a couple seconds “I don’t wanna know.” He said, I do need a room though, I’ll be right back me friend.” He stood up and walked over to the bar and rented a room for a night. Grabbing the key he slid it into his pocket and walked back over to where Bess sat. “so tell me of ye journey.” He said as he leaned back in the chair.
Bessain
Bessain sighed. Her trip hadn't been a plesant one. She had been running from her persuers for the last three days. "Well," she stared, setting her spoon down. "I havent slept or eaten for the last four days." Dagoron looked up at her in wonder... which soon left his eyes, when his plate of roasted mutton came in.
"I ran into a few rivals of mine... I have no idea what they were all doing in one big group. Did I ever tell you about my drow problems?" Dagoron shook his head at her question. "Anyways, I ran into a group of drow awhile back, and accientally insulted and stole from them... So, I met up with them three days ago, and they've been chasing me for awhile...I lost them back in the mountains....killed my horse while doing so... Man, I'm tired..."
"Valinor might become a thought for me..."she said, returning back to her soup. She hadn't told him the entire story, but that summed it up a bit. "And what about you? Anything happen on your way here?"
Pheonix
((blah, short post, i know...))
“Well… I scared the stable boy… other then that my ride was smooth, no one had a bounty on a Dwarf…” suddenly remembering a time when Bess stole something “hey! Was it that time ye stole that Mithril armor?” he said in a hushed whisper to her. Looking at the steaming plate in front of him he picked up the fork and knife that were provided, they were rather crude, but they would do. Quickly he cut into it ((man this post is making me hungry, I want some meatloaf now…)) and pulled up a steaming piece of mutton and smiled at it. he quickly stuffed it into his mouth, chewed, and swallowed it only to repeat the process, including holding it in front of him and smiling, every time… “Well was it Bess? Was that thee time?”
Bessain
"No, thats not the time I was reffering to..." she said, getting a little uncomfortable about this conversation. "It wasn't stealing... at least not to me... All I did was liberate a she-elf.... that happened to be in their possesion at the time.... sheesh... try to help someone, and you end up being chased across Middle Earth. " she said, shaking her head.
"I really need a break... Maybe I'll stop by Imladris after this..." She knew Elrond might give something to do if she did.
A drunk man accidentally bumped into her chair, pushing Bessain into the rim of her soup bowl, which spilled all over the table. Bessain stuck her foot out, and tripped the man as he walked by.
Thalion
Thalion usually avoided pubs but this evening he would make an exception. The rain had made the day dreary and he didn't have a desire to sleep outside this wet night. He rode to the stables and glanced at the horses put up there for the night and only found one that was familiar to him. He smiled as he thought how drunk the owner might be by now. The stable boy came to him and bowed as one might expect an elf to do but not a child of men. He humoured the boy and returned the gesture. "Tell me young man of the owner of that beast and I shall reward you for your information?" Thalion knew the owner and needed to no nothing of it's owner but merely did this to humour the boy. The boy told him of the rude manner in which this dwarf expressed himself and even how he threatened him with his axe. Thalion smiled at this and told the boy that he would have a word with this dwarf. He gave the boy two pennies of the shire which pleased the boy greatly.
Leaving his horse in good hands Thalion looked over the pub he had been to several times in the last one hundred years and it had changed little. As he walked up the steps he could hear the voices of the patrons drift through the thin walls. He opened the door only to catch a man that nearly knocks him over as he stepped in. The pub quietened down and watched as the drunken man excused himself as best he could to the elf and went on his way. Thalion smiled at the many faces that watch him and then paid them no regard. He was not surprised to find Dagoron but Bessain he thought might have made for Rivendell considering the situation she was in.
"Thalion my friend come and sit and have an ale, barmaid two ale for my elf friend….ah… he's paying." "Dagoron my friend you never change over the years." He comments as the barmaid brings the pints of ale. Dagoron quickly reaches over and grabs the two ale and pulls them in front of him. Thalion reaches over and takes one for himself in spite of the look on Dagoron's face. "Bessain I'm some what surprised to see you here, I thought you'd be half way to Rivendell by now." He comments as he takes a drink of the ale. "Well you thought wrong Thalion." She comments tersely. "I met some of your old friends on the way Bess." "Oh" She is all she says with out looking at him.. "They were eager to find you and straighten out some business matter with you, oh by the way they ate your horse." He takes another drink and just sits back. Dagoron watches them as he wolfs down his food and takes large drinks from his pint.
Thalion arranges for a room for the night and pays the barmaid. "I'm tired." he comments "Been a long wet day. Oh Bess I took care of that business matter for you with your friends. They were quite happy when I left them and the money I used wasn't mine so I thought I would make sure they didn't want to find you at all. I'm expected at Rivendell tomorrow and your welcome to ride with me Bessain if that's where you're heading. I'm for bed so I'll see you two in the morning." He takes one more small drink from his pint and hands it to Dagoron who quickly pours the remaining ale into his pint and drinks from it.
Bessain
Bessain was outraged, when she heard that Thalion paid her debt, with someone elses money. She didn't trust drow elves, not on her life, she had known too many.
((Bess needs to meet Duvodas, LOL))
According to her, they now had the money to buy supplies or anything else they may need. Even fresh horses. The could easily go back to tracking her. Bessain accidentally swept her bowl off the table, and across the room in her anger. A barmaid easily caught it. "D@MN, my courteous friends!" she mutterred under her breath. "Should have left for Rivendell when I had the chance! Now I have no idea where they are!"
Dagoron continued to drink his ale. The little dwarf had had atleast three already. "You don't even know if they're still chasing you."Dagoron said calmly.
"I wasn't talking to you. Would you forget about something that you just chased all over Middle Earth, for a bag of gold?! I wouldn't!" she growled.
"Yes, but you're stubborn."
"And so are drow! Have you ever met one?! The little demons have more tricks up their sleeves, than a wizard!"
"You worry too much,"
Bessain just growled in his direction, as she too turned in for the night. She had asked for a ground floor room, just in case she needed to leave fast. Jamming the key in the door, she forced it open, then slammed it shut as hard as she could. She'd have to pay Thalion back sometime, too. Propping a chair up against the door, Bessain loosens her weapons and kicks off her boots, not bothering to undress any further. She buried her face in the pillow, and fell asleep almost instantly.
In the morning, she laced up her boots, and kicked the chair away from the door to go join her dwarven friend for breakfast... knowing that he probably got drunk and slept down there.
Thalion
Thalion rose early wanting to be on the road to Imladris shortly but he knew Bess well enough to know that he likely infuriated her. He had learnt long ago that she was very independent and always saw the a favour as something to be scorned. What he had not told her was that the money came from one of the drows who no longer needed it. He knew two of the three drows he came across and stopped when he encountered them. The third drow he didn't know and had never seen him before. He chatted with them and they had asked if he had seen Bessain, they commented that there was some business they had to settle with her. Thalion knew all to well what business meant when spoken by drows so he directed them to Tharbad just south of the Eregion boarder.
The drow, he didn't know rose and walked into the forest, several minutes past and the smell of the drow came to Thalion, but the breeze was at his back. He sat a moment listening for any sound behind him. The smell grew stronger and Thalion sensed the drow behind him wheeled around as he stood and lodged his dagger into the drows chest killing him instantly. The other two drows knew Thalion and made no move against him. Angered he turned on the other two with his sword in his hand.
Nothing was said by anyone, Thalion turned and searched the dead drow while the others watch. He finds the money and weapons, the money he pockets and the weapons he tosses at their feet. "I have no need of those but if you ever you turn on me I will kill you the both and let the crows eat your festering remains. Now what was your business with Bessain? He asked in an angered tone. The two tell him of the money owed by Bess but not much more. He takes the coins owed from the moneybag he took off the dead drow and tosses it at their feet. "You will leave this area for I will tell all I see of you and there will no welcome for you here, only swords and arrows if you are seen. With that he mounts and rides off not stopping until he reaches Bree and the Prancing Pony Inn where he found by chance Bessain and Dagoron.
Thalion came down the stairs a saw Dagoron sitting at the same table he had been at the night before and there were already two pints of ale on the table along with meat and bread. Thalion joined him but drew lembas bread from his pack and ate that only. Dagoron was disgusted with this and spoke his mind to the elf. When he was done he readied himself to leave. "Dagoron I must be going and can not wait for Bess to join us. Would you give her this for me? Thalion asks as he drops a small package on the table. Dag looks at him suspiciously knowing what was in the package. "She'll be be angry at this and come looking for you just to tell you off or maybe kill you." Thalion smiled but knew that Dag was probably right. "Tell her to read the note before she destroys half the town in her rage and then tell her I've left for Imladris. Our trails may yet again cross Dagoron and I look forward to it." Thalion leaves the inn and makes his way to the stable where the same young man has his horse saddled. Thalion gives the boy a few coins and straps on his roll and leaves Bree.
